Yeah, so far I have seen only the Zalman style HS as being an alternative to the reference design. Still...dual slot would be a lot better so you can get that heat out of the case. Ah, newegg has some reference designs up today. Hopefully the alternatives start rolling out soon.
Yeah, the reference single slot doesn't seem too great. I'm going to try modding it some to see if I can make it decent. Still, it is copper and only needs to expel 110W of heat, so hopefully it won't be too bad. Mine will be in Monday and I'll see what I can do (for cooling only, I have no plans to OC yet as this card is more than enough for me).

My 2 wont be in till Thursday. I got them off FX yesterday morning and got the FedEx Ground, its shipped from deep in CA and im in Virginia
Apparently it runs around 55c idle with the fan barely running, noise dosent bother me so ill have no reservations about putting the fans at 70% or so constantly. I did this with my wife's 9800GTX, it idles at 40c and never tops 60c, good enough for me.
So tempted also, but I'm waiting for one to come with a dual slot cooler. Has anyone seen if HIS or Powercolor will make those like they did for the 3850?
I actually wish I waited a few weeks, and snagged Sapphire's Vapochill version if they made one. Or maybe I can buy just the cooler from Sapphire...hmmm...
