Im going to be buying my new PC in about a week. My budget is about 2000 which gives me roughly 600 to spend on video cards. Im wondering what you guys think will be the best card/card combination for around 600 dollars. Right now im leaning towards the crossfired 4870... and do you think that will be able to max out crysis?

Depends on resolution for crysis, 7950 GX2 1280x768 at medium/high details (bottlenecked by cpu, can get it on high with a oc'ed cpu). You don't always need new cards to game with, personnaly id use craigslist or ebay and find a good graphics card.

Geforce: 7950 GX2 = $120 average on ebay/craigslist
Geforce: 8800 GTS 320/640 MB = $100-$120
Geforce: 8800 GTX = $150- $200

Find 2 of the above same model sli it and you can max your crysis while saving a little bit.

What the hell? 7950GX2 for Crysis? and the 8800GTX under the $200 range?

Yep. Should try it. Craigslist works wanders, and the 7950 GX2 does a number on crysis, i bet a 7950 GX2 slied probably could get crysis on high detail with a good resolution.

well thing is... im a little hesitant to buy those older cards. i definately wanna buy a newer one. i just cant choose between the new ones coming out. Honestly though, xfire 4870 is looking likes its gonna be pretty good right now, from looking at the 4850's performance.

7950GX2 is a super old card, and performance wise for new games, is just too weak, thanks to its lousy architecture. Get one newer one, like the 8800GTS or even better, the 4850.

If i can play crysis really well on one 7950 GX2 its not that bad....

Well i really dont have any recommendations for the new cards considering the beta drivers and new cards cost a butt load of money. But a Geforce GTS 512 MB slied will do you really good performance and price wise. Or once again the GTX is quite good. Not a real difference between the 8800 series and the 9800 series (except price).
