Hi Gang,

Has anyone else experienced unexpected soft rests, especially in
association with receiving an SMS message. Any thoughts, experiences
or solutions would be appreciated. TIA

I haven't had any with an SMS msg, but then nobody sends me any either :(
I have had them many times with a particular program it didn't like.
When I try to run the offender, it just blanks and resets.
It appears many apps. are not compatible with OS5. Would be nice if they
would have made it just say that instead of choking and resetting.
However, I must admit it's sure alot better than needing a reset with the
damn pinhole like happens on my Visor if it gets crashed.
Only one prog. crashes it though, OmniRemote. It's rare enough and random
enough though that I keep using it :)

Word of warning though, there is one vicious program that required a hard
reset on the Treo 600 (as in total wipe and reinstall/backup of
everything): PhoneTime.zip. It's supposed to sych the time with your
computer, but instead it reaps havoc. If you try to turn wireless back
on, it crashes. If you try to delete it, it also crashes. And these are
the nasty crashes requiring the paper clip hole.
I even tried FileZ to delete it, and that did the same thing.
Finally gave up and hard reset.
Anyway, tell everyone you know. Not all app. data gets backed up, so you
could really lose something (not PIM stuff, but 3rd party app. data).

I followed the instructions below...The offending app is the SMS
program. Is this a known issue to Palm One. Any idea when a patch
might be forthcoming?

Is it only if you use the quicktext menu?
Anybody know if installing the latest firmware fixes it, or anything else
for that matter? I get crashes ALL the time, but usually from 3rd party
apps.
Got one recently I almost couldn't get it to reboot from (see other msg.).
Nice phone, but really damn flakey! It's really getting me steamed!
