HD Pros,

I am rewarding myself for some work I've done an am about to plunk down
about $4K on a 45" Sharp Aquos LCD Flat Screen. I'm pretty new to this
whole world, but have read a lot of reviews and everthing seems to be
comping up pretty favorably for this tv.

What I'm really worried about is spending this money and then seeing a
thread here that says another option would have been better, and while
I understand that inevitably there will be bigger/better/cheaper models
down the line, I wante to make sure that this model is a solid choice.
Specifically I'm thinking of the Sharp AQUOS LC-45GX6U 45" LCD TV.

I also understand that this model is 1080p which will keep me up to
date a little longer.

Thanks in advance for helping a new guy to this world.

Best,

J

This a larger version of my Sharp Aquos 37 inch LCD TV that I bought
last year for over $3K. It has performed flawlessly and while just 720p
capable produces an outstanding picture. Even with your 1080p set you
will find that many programs are in 720p so your tv will have to
convert.

Sharp makes the best LCD TV, bar none. Can't believe that the 45 inch
set has dropped to around $4k. They were around $6k last year. My only
advice is to get an in-home warranty for a few years past the Sharp
warranty to protect yourself and give some peace of mind.

Enjoy your set!

I am told that there is going to be a 60 inch direct view Aquos LCD before
the end of the year. Guesstimate of the price was 15K. On the 45 incher, I
wonder why they do not offer TV Guide, like they do on the 37. New model in
the works? Meanwhile, I am waiting for the price on the 37 to come down a
bit more, and maybe offer 1920 x 1080. You can actually get that resolution
cheap now in the 37 inch size from outfits like BenQ and Sceptre.

Sharp is coming out with a 65" Aquos, not 60". The list price will
indeed be somewhere in the 15 to 20K range. Initial production rate will
be in the 100s per month, IIRC, so don't expect to see it at your local
Best Buy for a while.

Given that Panasonic will be coming out with a 65" 1080p plasma later
this year - also initially produced in limited quantities - I would
probably go with the big Panny if it is to be used as a TV and I had the
$$$ & inclination for such a huge flat panel.
