Hi there,

I would like to upgrade my PC to Intel Core 2 Duo 8500, Sapphire 4870, 2048 DDR2/800MHz, but I don't know if my PSU - 400W Enermax Liberty will be enough for this system or not. I also have 2 SATA HDDs and a DVD RW drive. I don't plan to OC it. Is it necessary to upgrade also the PSU? I've calculated the needed wattage in eXtreme Supply Calculator ( http://www.extreme.outervision.com [...] orlite.jsp ) and it says I will need 330W for this system, but I don't know, what do you think? Thanks.

I would upgrade the PSU a bit for the 4870.

recomendation for a 4850 is a 450 watt PSU. the 4870 draws a bit more power.

usualy recomendations are very conservative, but I think in this case an upgrade will be needed

Upgrade it, and do it for good. PSUs can last for a very long time if from good brands manufactors.
Get a decent 850W PSU that will get you safe for the next 3 years or so.

PSU may last a while, but they seam to have lots of changes in plugs and voltage requirements. my PC P&C doesn't 8 pin plugs for the mobo or graphics card.

PSUs also work less efficiently when working outside thier sweet spot.
