I want ya'lls opinion. Do you think that a 4850x2 will bottleneck a 6000+? Personally i don't think it will, but i wanted second opinion. And if ya'll think i need to upgrade my CPU what would you recommend? I'm currently working on a new rig and i have Corsairs 650TX and DDR2 800 XMS on the way. I've yet to order a MoBo.

thanks in Advance :D

Hi,

I would say with two 4850 x 2 video cards the 6000+ processor could be a bottleneck, but this is probably true with most CPU's, or all currently (lol). I would also change the post to "Two 4850's in crossfire" because some people may think there is some crazy new 4850X2 dual-gpu card or something (I had to check newegg lol, apparently I am a n00b). The 6000+ is still a great processor, so I would say try the system, and if you are not happy with the performance; it's likely due to the processor, and then look at upgrading. There is no point in ordering a new motherboard + CPU + RAM if the "Crossfired" 4850's work great in your current setup. Worst-case scenario; you get the two cards running, the performance isn't what you expected; so you go order a new processor for $30 less than you would have if you ordered at the same time as the video cards.

My two cents.

Best of luck,

^^ ummm actually I think there is a chance that there would be a 4850x2, I heard that the 4870x2 was going to be released along with a slower card.

Wouldn't the 4850's be restricted by the motherboards PCIe 1.0 chipset? I am under the impression that in order to move to the newer PCIe 2.0 vid cards i would need to move over to a chipset that was PCIe 2.0 compatible? I have another question and this is probably a really noob question. Are there compatiblity issues with mixing video card manufacturers with different chipsets. For example, Ati/AMD video cards with Nvida chipsets?
