Cd-rom installation

I put a cd-rom from a compaq and put it into my gateway desktop
do you use a drivwer from gateway or compaq?

You probably won't be able to install an OS from a Compaq CD to a Gateway system. The installation CDs from major systems manufacturers usually only work in the specific make and model of the system they were burned to support - operating system functions and settings, hardware, and mfrs' software. I have heard that some Compaq and HP CDs work on similar systems - HP bought-out Compaq several years ago.
