Pretty good, I would have gone with a dual-core Intel processor if it was for gaming tho... A nice 8400 for the price...
And maybe spent some more on the graphics...

All things considered a good well rounded job...

Mobo
ASUS Crosshair SKT AM2 nForce 590 SLI DDR2 SATA 8 channel audio ATX Motherboard £109.97inc vat
-There are newer mobos on the market, why stick with the old ones? n'Force 7xx perhaps-

PSU
OCZ StealthXStream 600W PSU - SLI Ready ATX2.2 12cm LED Fan £49.16inc vat
-Corsair, Tagan, Enermax, Antec, Silverstone are better than OCZ. I have bought OCZ Vanquiser sometime in the past, and it sucks, I don't trust OCZ even a bit since then. For a single VGA 600W is too much but for 2 VGA it is a little bit not enough-

Case
NZXT Alpha Black Mid Tower Case - With E-SATA Port - No PSU £40.32
-Coolermaster cm690 is better, I think. But this is your choice-

OS
Vista £64.79inc vat
-64 or 32 bit? 4GB memory only works optimum with 64 bit OSs-

HDD
raptor 10,000 150gb £118
-Forget the 10k series from WD! It'S not worth the money. Get a Seagate 500GB 32MB 7200.11!-

OC? Don't forget to buy a good cpu fan.

Oh man.
CPU choice....not so good a fast X2 is cheaper and will smoke it.
Motherboard choice....not so good it's pretty old and outdated.
Graphic card choice....okay but 1 gig of memory on a GT is worthless, money spent here for nothing.
Hdd choice....not so good -raptors are fast, but at a high premium for the speed and storage space you get. For gaming, very little help for a lot of $$.

I give it 1 out of 5 stars.
I like the memory, that's about it.
Sorry but you asked! You could have built a much faster gaming rig for the same or even less money.

Yup...that has crossed my mind too.
1 GB on a VGA cards doesn't give anything. Just buy 512MB version or a better VGA.
Phenom X4 and X2 do have differences. If you are looking for a slow but powerfull multitasker than quad is your choice but if you like a fast gaming monster just get dual. WIth a note : Quadcores will last longer in the future.

The system hasnt been ordered yet i am still free to make changes. I was thinking about going for the e8400 rather than the amd 9750 so I will make that change before order.
Motherboards: I'm not so clued in if you can recommend a better one at the same price that would be great.
Graphic card: a 1GB GT is worthless? My alternative choice would of been the 512mb 8800
HDD: I despise loading times i'm willing to invest extra to minimise them

Suggested alternatives at a similar price value would be great

for just over £700 you can do a lot better than what you have there, i would suggest something on the lines of

LN13080
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro - P4 up to 4.4GHz - S775 Dual/Quad Core Ready - The Favourite One! £12.69 £14.91

LN21080
Intel Core 2 Duo, E8400, Wolfdale Core, S775, 3.0 GHz, 1333MHz, 6MB Cache, Retail £109.84 £129.06

LN22890
Asus P5Q, iP45, S 775, PCI-E 2.0 (x16), DDR2 1200/1066/800, SATA II, SATA RAID, ATX £74.99 £88.11

LN22642
500 GB Samsung HD502IJ Spinpoint F1, SATA 300, 7200 rpm, 16MB Cache, 8.9 ms, NCQ £38.52 £45.26

LN21658
4GB (2x2GB) Corsair XMS2, DDR2 PC2-6400 (800MHz), Unbuffered, CAS 4-4-4-12, DHX £58.64 £68.90

LN16718
Antec 900 - Nine Hundred Ultimate Gamer Case with 200m Top Fan w/o PSU £61.99 £72.84

LN15215
620W Corsair HX Series Modular SLi PSU, ATX, EPS 12V, whisper quiet, 5 year warranty £72.69 £85.41

LN20921
512MB Asus 8800GTS, PCI-E 2.0, Mem 1940MHz, GDDR3, GPU 650MHz, Streams 128, 2x DL DVI-I £125.00 £146.88

LN17166
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium SP1* 64Bit 1Pk OEM (DVD) £53.29 £62.62

total is about £730 however you could save a bit of money by going for a different case and/or a p35 motherboard

and this system with a mild OC such as FSB to 400mhz, ram ratio at 1:1 and processor multiplyer to 9 you will get a 3.6 ghz processor with the full 800mhz on you ram so will be very quick, and you dont need to worry to much about straining you parts as the ram is known to reach above 900mhz and the processor above 4ghz

however as with any OC everyone is different and you should take care when doing one
