Okay so now I'm on my laptop.
I reconnected the original PSU and the problem went away,
BUT
I found that there is "PWR FAN1" plug on the MOBO right betweetn the 2 main connectors, its a 3 pin plug and the OEM PSU has a plug for it that is white, blue and black.
If I unplug this, using the OEM PSU the problem happens again.
The NEW PSU doens't have the connection to connect this PWER FAN1 jack to the PSU.

ANy THoughts???
...........
Now I just took the old PSU apart and it has a 120mm fan built in with a very short wire that is connected to a board in the PSU
Your Sony Pc might require you to purchase a p/s from them.
you know a Proprietary part.
I would give them a call and ask about upgrading your power supply.

How do I disable fan speed Proecteion for FAN PWR1????
I would bet that it does not have the ability to disable that. Look in the BIOS for the setting. Most OEM BIOSs are stripped of anything useful at all. That's one of the very big reasons not to buy OEM crap to begin with.

Don't give those bastards another dime for overpriced crap.
If the ideas I gave you don't work, then you can buy a PSU that has a fan RPM sensor lead, that should give the mobo the fan speed data it wants.
Why not see if you can use the fan in the old PSU and tie wrap it in there if you need to just to shut the machine up. I'm almost positive that a $5.00 aftermarket 3pin fan will also shut it up.
Okay, Yeah I bought it about 7 years ago now and didn't know squat then, not that I do now, but I know a lot more.
The PC seems to run fine when I just press F1 to skip it, but I was concerned that I connected something wrong or screwed something up
What's happening is that the plug is so the motherboard can detect the power supply's fan and be sure it's spinning. But since the new psu doesn't have this plug, the motherboard will give this error. But as you have found, everything will run fine. As others have already said, see if there is a setting in the bios to disable monitoring the fan. If not just get a cheap fan with a 3 pin plug and plug it in there and mount it somewhere in the case. The motherboard will then detect the fan spinning and not give the error message.
I took the 120mm fan out of the PSU - which has a standard 3 pin connector on it, I plugged it into this PWR FAN1 port but the fan wouldn't even turn on.
When I took the PSU apart the cable that connected to this jack went to some type of board in the PSU, that internal board and another standard 3 pin jack that the internal fan connected to.
I'm not stressing anymore, but its very annoying -- One good thing I finally got the new case power & reset buttons to work.
I design, sale & install home Audio / Video Equipment and I feel the same way about the rest of their crap. Some of the HIGH-END Sony A/v equipment is decent, but I would never waste my money on it.
I'm sure its the same BS across the board.
I think I'm just gonna let it run for a bit and see if any issues come up, I was going to use the Case and PSU for my new build, but I'm thinking I will go with more power now anyways, like 550-650watts, it really seems to help performance.
I know this old sony sucks, but it works find for browseing web and storing media. Later I will likely just use it as my office PC
In the BIOS is there an ignore hardware error option (might be called something like "stop on" then with options for "all errors","floppy" etc and "none", you'de want to set it to none). You would still get the error, but the pc would ignore and boot as normal without you needing to press a key.
@ Zorg, yeah I agree f*** Sony. Decent cameras with stupid expensive memory cards, their own music atrac c**p format, they don't like universal standards so I will NEVER buy Sony (except for blue ray!).
Cool for Blu-Ray - but don't buy a Sony Player - they are the cheapest crap out, Either Get a Panasonic for something cheap, but best is the DENON's they have 3 models now @ $750, $999 and $1999 - and they are worth it.
I will check more to see if I can find a "stop On" Or ignore Fans speed - but I don't think there was. THe Bios Seems really limiited compared to manuals for other ASUS boards very close to this one that I've see.
