hello, i had this e4400 OCed a little for few months now, 2.0 to 2.8 with normal vcore.
now i want it to speed up little more. im thinking about 3.2
i worked for few hours to get it stable but i couldnt..
i had 330FSB (3.3 core) with 1.4 Vcore , but while testing after few minutes, blue screen shows, saying dumping physical mem.....never goes over 70C
i had no error on prime, but blue screen, i this mean i need to change other settings on bios?(memory, NB voltages?)
btw, i did not change anything except, vcore, fsb, pcie(100).

so i have 3.23 with 1.392Vcore i believe... failed 3 hours of prime. i have been decresing fsb by 2mhz and increasing vcore by 1 level.. this is not working for me very well

GA P35 DS3L, E4400 L2 stepping, 3GB(1,1,512,512) pc2 5300 - 667mhz , setted 1:1 ratio with fsb., HD2600Pro ICEQ (650/525) to (738/540), cosair vx450 psu.

any advises?

I would reduce the multiplier to the lowest possible (6?) and then try to get the highest fsb before it fails to boot into windows. I'd settle for a just a few minutes of prime just to get things going and save time at this stage.

Once you have an idea of your fsb ceiling, you can begin to look at the multiplier. Keep track of your voltage during this entire time - certainly dont want to go over 1.4 much.

Remember to leave your ram untouched (ie 1:1) just to make sure it's not the cause of the bsd. Else, use memtest to check your ram (put your system back to stock to do this - may take several run and a few hours- but worth it).

Looks to me you may need 800mhz ram - good time to buy also real cheap. I had the same mobo so I know it can go beyond 400fsb with the right setup.

Also consider you may be hitting the ceiling for your cpu - although I've always gotten at least a 1ghz oc on every c2d chip and qcore I've worked on... should be able to do the same with the 4400 on air.

Just for grins, you could try to max out all voltages and see if you can get prime to run for a few minutes ** DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK ** keeping a good eye on temps.

What kind of hsf are you using with your cpu? if you are using stock - get rid of it quick and get yourself at least a xigmatek s1283 - that's my fav for the price (using it on my q9300 @ 1.3v - 3.7Ghz OC with 40C idle and 68C load)...

Good luck.

thanks for replies. appreciated.

im using aftermarcket cooler, rosewill heatpipe 92mm cooler. at stock speed it never goes over 44C at load ^^
i thought this was good for price
im trying to keep my cpu under 70C at prime with OC.

i did raise my fsb by 15 when i first started on OCing. and when i reached a point when my pc started fail the prime in few minutes. i started to lower it by 2Mhz.

ah.. sorry one more question, on cpuz, the vcore keeps switching between 1.376 and 1.360 during prime. no pattern . sometimes 3 secs 5secs...(with 1.39 on bios set up)
and clock is not stable at 3230.0000. it fluctuates from 3229 to 3234. is this normal?
