I need a couple of good sli graphics card that does not exceed 8.5"

While i don't know the exact length i would suggest looking at either 9600 series cards or at other cards made by manufacturers that are known to not use the reference design - like Palit.

The Gigabyte 8800GT uses a non-reference board that's only 7 1/4 inches long. I think (but not sure) that the Asus uses that same board.

I think that Gigabyte is just shy of 8 inches inside the case, but you are right it's a good bit shorter than the reference 9 inch 8800GT.
