Hi,

had a problem with an HP Pavilion laptop that turned out to be a systems board. Sent it back to HP for repair and could not do a systems backup prior to sending it because the Laptop was dead. Was never informed by HP that they would even think of restoring the system to factory settings when they had it and still don't know why they did, but they did.

Can any of the data that was lost from the reformatting and re-imaging be retrieved by me using a software package or by a data retrieval company?

Thanks for any help with this.

Next time take the hard drive out and hook it to another computer and back up the data. Use one of these adapters:

You'll also need an available connector on a standard IDE ribbon cable
+ a 4-pin Molex from your power supply.

You could try some partition recovery programs, but I think there is little hope because the data has been overwritten.
