OK, no excuses. No NDA's. No fudging the numbers. No ones jumping the gun. Im looking forward to see what were going to get from our "trusted" sites this week. Will they use fraps? Will it be some quixotic apples to apples? Will they fully redo the 4850 launch, with a wider spectrum of games? Will they include the 35 Intel chipset vs the 38 irregularities? This is a good time to evaluate whats really going on on our "trusted" review sites. Stakes are high. Im hoping that we can at least all come to some conclusion after this week where we see how ATI and nVidia stands against each other, and maybe together with our "trusted" sites

As much as I hate to say it, I think Nvidia will still hold crown for most powerful card.

But I'm hoping the ATI comes close for the 300$ :) that would make it the better buy:)

I also think Nvidia will hold the performance crown. But I think ATI will hold the bang for the buck crown. Who really knows till REAL reviews come out.

^ idk... I thought that as well... but now i'm thinking that the 4870x2 will really take off

either way i don't care... I just want the best performer... at a reasonable price that is... like the gtx 280 isn't worth its price right now... if it drops to 450 - 500 it would be great

I thought it was too good to be true, but you cant know until you buy one yourself and test it out.

Reply to alfrido

Well with the ban in place to release full details, they can't make a complete review until its completely lifted which is sometime next week according to anandtech.

So basically, reviews that fits your opinions are real, and those that don't are not. :p

Why did they ban the release of the full details? We are going to know sometime at some point. Word spreads fast.

Reply to alfrido

because the word spread so fast thats why they stop you from knowing what the card is truely capable of. hence will affect the sale = less money for them.'

because if you dont know you could go out and buy and card and try it out. by then they got your money already.

Thank you for telling me. If i was ATI i wouldn't care if they would know the specs. If i am building something i would build it better.

Reply to alfrido

but what if you cant? there is constraints in a business. its not just i wanna build this today and i can build it. financial factor is the main constraint most of the time.especially AMD for the past.....year(S)?

Reply to iluvgillgill

Could be they dont want to embarrass nVidia and Intel. You never know...

Be careful what you wish for....the 4870 may just surprise you! We already know what the 4850 can do in crossfire.

i dont think that the 4870 can push out twice the power as the HD4850 since they both the same core but just different speed.

Reply to iluvgillgill

Im not doubting half the sites on that list. Others are. Ive seen enough of the 4850 to know how it performs, others arent so sure. Im looking forward to both the 4870 and the archetecture of the 4xxx series explained, reviewed and viewed in full.

True, but I really don't think anyone knows how GDDR5 will perform; this is the first time we have every seen it used.

Look how the 4850 compares to the 280

Things arent looking too good for ATI as far as performace goes, but as long as it is prices the 4870 < 299USD, then its all good.

They are previews, incomplete. Not that in depth, plus, the 4870 and the use of GDDR5 isnt in them. Its like the 8800GTS review without the GTX and no in depth review at that

yea, except almost none of these sites make mention of the 4850s fan and temperature issues in any great detail which is currently the biggest problem with the 4850, and it was the biggest problem with the 3800 series at launch as well

I would HOPE that when ATI does the REAL launch not the "beta launch" that they are running now that they will have real drivers that actually.. you know.. make the fans actually work the way they are supposed to so that the card isn't hot enough to cook steaks on?

Vr-zone was probably the only site that actually mentions these fan issues because they went to the trouble of buying FOUR 4850 gpus for a quad crossfire setup - and guess what? They couldn't run four gpus without artifacting/overheating/crashing and 3 gpus seems to not accelerate performance to any noticeable degree at all over 2.

Now, do you understand why none of these reviews mean a bloody thing until the real launch is live? Because as Jaydeejohn put it quite accurately these reviews are incomplete at best!

Also, anyone who likes eye candy, stop at no AA or even just 4AA, dont look at the 8AA scores http://www.computerbase.de/artikel [...] _rv770/20/

What's with all the drama? It's the same dog and pony show it has always been, don't confuse real life woes with a video card that will be yesterday's news tomorrow. Tom's has gone through so many "trusted" and "not trusted" phases who can keep track? We expect bias and read right through it.

I wish the hardware fetishists and I do love you guys, would start using the megaphone to demand better drivers to utilize the gear you already have. Get dramatic about age old bugs and usability issues, everyone uses the drivers not everyone uses Triple SLI and 16xQ FSAA.

Reply to bf2gameplaya

LOL ok...... Lets see, ummmm try running no AA without drivers, or 16x AA, one thing I know, If I can run it, Im going to. If youre that bored, go fishing or something. Maybe you arent excited about it, but I am, as are others.

One thing I must point out is that the 4850 outperform the Ultra in most cases, which is mighty impressive, considering it was once worth at 800+USD. A mainstream beating the last gen highend is quite impressive. It hasnt been done since....well..at launch price of 200USD...has it ever been done??The GTS 320 was worth 300+USD. That is an impressive feat.

Reply to DarthPiggie

The 7600GT came close to besting the 6800Ultra, but it couldnt do it.

Reply to DarthPiggie

Well, the G280 was a sort of let down. Theres been no easy answer for a gpu upgrade for awhile now. Maybe this will get the ball moving. Im not just the only one . This in itself is funny, this IS the time to be excited. Anybody want to upgrade from their 8800s? Anyone been able to?

^ i still have my 8800 gts 640... still nothing that's dramatically better and that's worth upgrading to

Reply to thogrom

who really needs to upgrade their 8800s, it plays 99% of the games phenomenaly anyway. However the cards are starting to show their age, games like Mass Effect, AC, and the game that is probably tougher than crysis, Call of Juarez DX10. We Will NOT! see the performace we expect, UNTIL!!, Real DX 10 aka 10.1 is implemeneted into gamesin AC with 10.1, we saw the 3870 acting like a highend card, beating the 8800s, an impressive feat! The potential of the 4800s and DX 10.1 is out there.
