3.5 on Q9450 with CPU Level up.....

hi as u can probably tell i used the cpu level up on my rampage formula to overclock my Q9450 just to see how far it would go, i went up to "crazy" and got 3.5, so i used prime 95 for about 25min and temps were around 56c, i know i should of left it longer but anyway, and it idles at 36c, is it safe to leave it at this setting? i've turned it back down for now coz i'm not sure and i am a noob at overclocking :)

More about : q9450 cpu level

I am jelous, but I would recommend running it longer as you well know. I am shootin for around 3.4ghz on my E6420 tomorrow night. Time will tell how it goes.

Best,

3Ball

thanks 3ball and goodluck tomorrow night, hope it all go's well :) . i will def test it more tomorrow, its way too late to be frying my brain around the net and my bios now lol

Those temps are safe but you want to determine 100% stability your going to need more than prime etc, Put crysis through it and some rendering as well as dvd or tuner. CPU stability doesn't determine system stability.

at those speeds it should be plenty safe!
my q9450 runs a few degrees higher than yours at idle at 3.44ghz and its completely stable, plays crysis for hours with no drama.
cool chips huh :)

I have one that runs fine at 3.4 GHz 21-23 C idle, 51-53 C prime95 load. Can boot and works fine at 3.6 GHz in OS or games. But crashes after 30-40 min at 3.6 on prime95. Have not tried yet between 3.4- 3.6. Maybe even can be stable at 3.6 with more tweaking. Anyway 3.4 is plenty for me.
