Dual Quad Core Intel Chipset --Motherboard

Seeking knowledge on any Motherboard that will run dual quad-cores- Intel-Can i get away with using 2 Q6600- Or would i have to use the Xeon?

Trying to make a workstation for some Autodesk design program(s)
Not gaming.

Is a server board the most common choice even though I dont want that layout?

Oh yeah if i did have to use the xeon- Price is an issue -so could i run with one cpu until i get $$ for the next???
