Sorry if this has been brought up before, did a search.

The question is, are 2 x 4Gb DDR2 800 on the way to being viable/affordable?

I am building a rig, and looking between the x48 and p45s.

It seems that running cf on a p45 doesnt gimp the cards too much, and the total 16Gb of RAM seems like a big bonus.

Newegg previously only had GSkill 2x4Gb DDR2 for $515 USD, but now OCZ released some for $221 USD.

Maybe i answered the question right there, seems pretty affordable with the OCZ option.

agreed that those are great values. but price per 2Gb is only $20 cheaper. and getting the 2x4Gb sticks leaves 2 slots open for more in the future, if i feel i need/want more.

i know i cant be the only person to think of this when the p45s came out. bueller?

well might I ask what are you gonna be doing that requires more than 8 gigs of ram?...if you are not running a server with server applications, the price is simply unjustifiable...

i will use it for CAD, day to day stuff, multi-media, and high-end gaming.

i know that right now it is overkill, but i am looking ahead. i want this build to last a while.
