How do I use an older version of intellipoint driver

I need to use an earlier version of the microsoft intellipoint driver (so I can assign esc to a button). How do I do this?

If I uninstall the driver and use another mouse to run the installation software for the old driver I get a message saying a newer version is installed.

If I then reboot the computer, the new version is re-installed (even though I have deleted the files from the program folder).

Any ideas?

OK sorted. Unplug usb mouse - uninstall - clean registry- install mouse from other manufacturer (don't let it run on windows drivers). Restart a couple of times during this process then run the installation software for the old driver.
