How can I recover from a dropped externall hard drive the data.
If I build it out of the case and connect it directly to a ws the it is read out as a floppy disk.
It does not give me a ticking sound. But it gives me the horrible sound of 'wanting-to-start-but-falls-silent'.
Any suggestions?
Most likely it's an error with the mechanism that moves the read-write heads. Even if there's some damage to the platters themselves, you should be able to recover most of your data. The problem is that if your data is important, I suggest handing it over to a data-recovery specialist.
Well, I did some more testing.
Tryed Ultimate Boot Cd Tools, Hiren BOOTcd and even som small linux distros. Non of these could see the seagate hard drive. Even with the seagate tools in DOS didn't do the trick. So I suggest informing the client to go to a specilized recovery centre. But the question is, is it worth the money?
