Hi I just put my first build together, as you probably know by now, with some problems!

Let me give you the specs first
EVGA 680i Sli mobo
intel duo 45nm E8500
dual 8800gt
Zalman hsf
4 gigs xms2 ddr2 corsair ram
TX 750w Corsair PSU

When I go to turn it on. The lights and fan come on for less then a second then turn off.
any suggestions?

Get an older cpu (e6600, Q6660, etc), installed, update the bios to P31 (on evga boards) or equilivant, so you have support for the wolfdale chips.

Alternative is to get them to send you an updated bios chip for your board.

I had to do this as I progressed from P4 3.0 to e6600, to e6750, to Q6700, then to Q9450.

^^^ what he said. If you're positive that the bios supports the cpu, clear cmos, try each stick of ram in each of the slots, once the pc posts, go to bios, load defaults, increase ram voltage to 2.1v or specs.

I am having the exact same problem, motherboard light turns on, fans spin for a split second then nothing. Light stays on but nothing else. I've tried booting with the motherboard outside the case, inside, bare minimum connected, everything. All the cables are hooked up properly (I'm pretty sure, I've gone through the manuals like 5 times) and I've been trying to find some answer on the web for the past day. nothing is working. What could be the problem?

My specs:

Intel Duo Core E6400
Asus P5W DH Deluxe Motherboard
Corsair 2x2gb TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX Ram
PSU OCZ OCZ600SXS 600W RT
CASE ROSEWILL R5601-BK RT
Seagate 7200.11 500gb HD
Video card is the ArcadeVGA from Ultimarc.com it's a modified ati card to be used with arcade monitors...I'm going to be using this system for a MAME arcade cabinet.

680i does not support 45nm CPUs without a BIOS update. You must have an older CPU laying around to flash the BIOS with.

Or have them send you a new BIOS chip.

1st off, some ram don't work in some board cuz they need HIGHER voltage than stock 1.8v. Some people don't check the specs & then blame the ram manufacturer for making "faulty" ram. Before you buy, check the specs 1st.

Like I said, use one stick of ram at a time. Or you sound like a newbie.
