Hello,
I have a new dvd that seems not playbackable on my dvd or blu ray player but seems to work in my computer. I bought the dvd to watch on my home system, is there anything I can do to solve this

yes, I bought it and it might have a region specific code. I am not sure if I can rip it then burn it using my computer. I thought this might circumvent the region specific code issue.

Nope. The region code still applies, to the best of my knowledge. I would suggest you get an external optical drive. Keep the optical drive you have one code and the external one the other.

If you did around the 'Net, you can find "region-less" DVD players (I have one so my wife can watch international shows). I have not see the same for PC optical drives.

Sometimes, you can update the firmware on some optical drives and reset the region code. What make/model of optical drive are you using?

I am not sure, I will have to find out. So, the external drive would allow me to use the computer as a DVD player??
