So I was under the impression that the new HD4870 was supposed to be released today. I can't find it anywhere! Am I just mistaken or were they supposed to release today?

The last I read, the cards were delayed until the 26th. But that may have changed and I didn't see it. I'm waiting for the release and reviews myself, but have taken a relaxed attitude over it.

lucky you, i've got a bucket underneath me to contain the drool. I'm hoping it won't be too long till the x2 is released.

What I read: June 25th for the NDA, then July 8 for official street date release - not to say you won't be able to find it sooner though ;)

supposedly it was moved up to yesterday. still nothing on google shopping that's legitimate though. There was another thread yesterday. I got excited, then forgot about it.

So you think this new card will absolutely crush my 8800GTS (G92) KO?

there is a review already from some site... if you believe it (and i do) it looks like its going to be a little faster than gtx260, and when 8x AA is used it can equal the gtx280.

It is likely to use a good deal more power than the 8800gts.....and probably be louder.

8x AA. On Crysis too I might add?

And hotter. The 8800 GTS in my other machine runs reasonably cool, but I saw a review on the 4870 this morning that showed it running hot at idle, and very hot under load.

If those temps are real, some good fans or alternate cooling will be needed.

Theres also some posts around talking about how it needs the official release drivers for the proper cooling to work. I think they said the en.exp review was using older beta drivers. We'll see!
