Hey, Im new here but not to computers. Bro, with a $300 budget thats not bad for music and web surfing he wont even need that much but what's wrong with a little over-kill. I'd say go for it. Good luck :)

Ya umm. Your fogot the OS!
If thats already taken care of, then i would recommend getting only 1 8600 and using the saved money on something else (nicer case).

SS is right. Don't SLI for that. WASTE

$20 PSU = bad bad bad and oh yeah BAD.

Get a real motherboard like one with a P35 chipset. nVidia's chipsets are buggy.

Ill look into the p35 Mobo.(I havnt had much problem with my 650i sli mobo)..I dont know i got a good deal on these 8600's ..that its hard not to just throw them in ..Os is taken care of..i think i might throw vista on'...Cooler MAster isnt that bad for a power supply a lill on the nosy side if you get the wrong kind....what you recommend'? i figure 500 watts will do for him..the case...they got some nice case on Newegg i was looking for under 50$ ..he wont know the diffrence between a nice case and an expensive case

All Right'

Rethought it out..and this is what i came up with i think..keep in mind i got to..keep this rig under or at 300'..cant go much over' ..

e4400(OC) would like to get my hands on a 45nm (e8400 or e8200)
Aqua gate Mini:R120 (modded to clear tubing)
MotherBoard (havnt Decided yet)
Crucial ballistix tracers 2Gig
Hard Drive 160gig
8600GTS XXX Edition (scored it for 40$)
Sound Blaster X.FI Fadility Edition
Cooler Master 500Watt Power supply
Case Thermaltake Soprano Rs (Painted inside Black)

OS: XP or vista..Most likely XP

Hes going to be using it for college work..and..or..a lill music Edit..writing music..so forth..? the on only thing i question is if the e4400 is too outdated already..
