I'm about to receive my first (very cheap) build in 6 years from newegg in a couple days thanks to all the help here so far. I want to get a headstart on learning how to overclock. I really have no idea where to start. Anyways, this is what I bought Intel Pentium E5200 Wolfdale 2.5GHz + GIGABYTE GA-G31M-ES2L. Still haven't picked out a cpu cooler yet either. I got the Antec 300 case and CORSAIR CMPSU-400CX 400W psu. This build was something to learn on so I know what I'm doing when I upgrade to i7. Thanks again for the help.

I reviewed the manual (see page 49) for your motherboard for its overclocking capabilities.

To overclock:

1. In the Bios MB Intelligent Tweaker (MIT) screen, disable CPU Host Clock Control.

2. For the next item below, set the CPU Host frequency to 266,

I would start off leaving System Voltage Control on Auto just to see if your motheboard selects a low vcore for this slight overclock. If it does, around 1.22 v or 1.25 v for example, and your system is stable I'd leave it on auto.

Be sure to have CPU-Z and Realtemp running in Windows background to monitor your vcore, core speed, multipliers working, and of course temps.

I also have an e5200 on the way. Based on overclock experience of my other processors (e1200 and e4500) on an ECS G31 chipset motherboard, 1066 FSB is my stable, safe as far as temps, overclock limit. WIth the e1200, a 12.5 multiplier at 266 should give you a stable overclock speed of 3.32 GHz. Excellent value for a $69 processor!! I paid $125 for e4500 a year ago and now the e5200 will outperfom it!!
