Ok, I am a complete newb, I've never overclocked before, I have gone through and changed settings that people have suggested, afterwards, I rght click my computer, go to properties, and the clock speed still says 2.67gzh...

Can someone give me a headsup on how I should do this

I am running
P6T Deluxe OC Palm
Core i7 920 Nahlaem
OCZ DDR3 6GB

Zalman Cooler and 1100w psu

Also on the board is a
Radeon 4870X2 Sapphire ed.

Please help me!

Trust me, you'll need to do a lot of reading if you want to learn about overclocking, so make the time!

r_Manic, I've got my PC over clocked; its running 3.8gzh
but its running really hot; any suggestions?

Thanks for the info btw!

Can anyone suggest a water cooling?

Reply to Dariuas

check out the Coolit Domino...easy and cheap.

How how is your rig running? Maybe you don't have to resort to a relatively "exotic" setup like water cooling.

Reply to r_manic

Its running ok at 3.3gzh but I want to overclock to 3.6+
Run now the core speed is 3309.2 mzh
QPI 2985.3

Temps (only running wow) and 57 Proccesses with 41% memory usage and 6% CPU Usage
TJ. Max (No idea what this is) 100c
TDP: 130.0 Watts
Core 0: 43c
Core 1: 38c
Core 2: 39c
Core 3: 38c

What are you using to monitor your temp? Download OCCT 3.0.1 and run that for an hour. Select CUSTOM and run a LARGE DATASET, HIGH PRIORITY, and check the Hyperthreading box. This will cook your CPU and make sure it's running ok.

Are you using the stock cooler? if so, 3.8 is a bit high.

The temps you have, if from Coretemp or RealTemp seem fine. But idle doesnt really mean much if you are topping out 90C on full load.

If you go with a water cooler, the Coolit Domino seems to be popular. But i'm not a water fan. I prefer air, something about a container of liquid in my PC doesn't sit right even though its self contained.

I have a Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme 1366, which I really like. I also really like the CoolerMaster V8, which I would have bought if i didnt get the thermalright free from a buddy who went water.

Jay2,
I am running Zalman CNPS 9550.
I'll try that program out; thanks.

I ran the test for 30m just because I want to be cautious (The cook your PC kind of scared me) Here are the results

Again, I am running the Zalman 9500a

I have the Storm Sniper Case (2 220mm case exhaust) with added 2 120mm fans as intake

I have the Zalman pointing up pushing the heat from the HSF out of the top of the case.
As well as another 120mm intake on the back.

I am also running the Sapphire 4870x2 (just 1)

Those are great temps. Was the Hyperthreading check box checked?

Reply to jay2tall

Yes it was;
What is the threshold for temperatures? I want to OC more...

Reply to Dariuas

So it is at 3.3GHz now? You should have to problems reaching 3.8. That is kind of the cut off point for C0 stepping unless you go a little more radical.

Do you know if you have a C0 or D0? you can use CPU-Z to check this.

A D0 will hit 4GHz or higher. usually.

Reply to jay2tall

Checking on CPU-Z I do not see C0 or D0;

What is a safe operating temperature?

Also another question;
with the P6T Deluxe
I know it has some sort of memory management
Is each ram suppose to be in each channel
IE: 3 2gb Sticks in
Dim 1: Ram
Dim 2: Empty
Dim 3: Ram
Dim 4: Empty
Dim 5: Ram
Dim 6: empty

I think they are black and orange. The book will say. I think it's which ever color closest to the CPU.

GOOD temps are in the 40's idle. OCed low to mid 50s

OCCT MAXED, I used to hit 90C but since the thermal paste sat a while i hit max 85C

So I won't ruin my proccessor with 3.8 @ 1.66v?

Reply to Dariuas

1.66v for a Dram voltage? No. CPU voltage i wouldn't go over 1.4v

Reply to jay2tall

So, I over clocked to 3.8 and it blue screened on me, I turned it down to 3.6 and it ran fine. I am benchmarking it right now. I only ran a 6m OCCT check on both, and at the 5->4 min is when 3.8 BSOD on me. The idle temp for the 3.6 is right around 42-44c. I am a bit unsure if my voltage and such is set right; after this BM runs I'll post the info here and let you judge.

Thanks for all your help btw Jay

So here is my overclock

And here is the CoreTemp reading

Now, I am utterly sick of typing on this HP mini laptop; I am going back to my desktop ;p

What do you have all of your voltages set to?

Make sure you have Speed step and Turbo OFF.

You may need to manually set a few voltages if you aren't already.

Reply to jay2tall

Just posted those above ;-)

Ok, so I ran OCCT again with the above OC; here are the temp results
