Hey all, I just built my rig and I'm interested in trying to OC, main reason why I got a E5200. Well this is my setup, antec 300, gigabyte G31-E2SL, Corsair 400cx psu, G.skill 4gb 800, and WD Black 640gb. I'm waiting for my cooler to get in, but I want to try and get it started tomorrow. My first question was, should I make my changes thru BIOS or use the software the board comes with to OC. The software seems much more user friendly. Also, on stock cooling, how much can I push it? If someone could direct me to a good step by step guide, that'd be great.

I've got a E5200 and a Foxconn motherboard and it overclocks easily to 3.3 ghz with stock voltages and a stock fan/heatsink with just a couple of bios settings.

I didn't do any voltage changes so it's just running the default setting the motherboard came with. I pushed the bus speed to around 265. With the E5200's 12.5 multiplier that calculates out to 3313 mhz speed.
The only other BIOS setting I had to change was to unlink the FSB with the memory speed so that the memory could run at it's rated speed. So it was just a couple of BIOS settings I had to change to do the overclocking to work. If your BIOS doesn't support unlinking memory speed from the FSB speed, you may have to fiddle with a FSB/Memory speed multiplier (as documented in the link).
As mentioned before, I'm just using the stock heatsink and fan that came with the CPU and it runs great. Temperatures stay really cool even with a load.
From load tests, that speed seems to be near the speed limit for a stable rig with default voltages for my system.
