Trying to boot system, hearing alarms...

I'm trying to boot my new system, I've double checked just about everything i know of, and i can't seem to find the culprit

but my fan isn't running and i believe the overheating alalrm is going off, so i don't have alot of time to play around before i shut it off again, i hope my processor isn't fried already

i try to get my system to boot up off of the HDD, but it just stalls

could use alot of help, I'll be very thankful

abit x38 quad gt motherboard
EVGA 8800GTS 512
E8400 wolfdale 3.0ghz
4 gigs G-skill PC2 8500

corsair 650 watt PSU

also the cpu fan is running now, processor seems to be ok

i get a disk boot failure when i try to boot up, im telling the BIOS to boot up first off of the HD, for a new build should i do it off of the optical drive first?

Yeah I get an Error when trying to install Windows XP. For some reason it seems to think that my HardDrive is corupt even though I have even reformated and tried to reinstall Windoze. Starting to get perty frustrated. So while you guys are at it with boot problems if you could help here i would really appreciate it.

Sorthnarolina... Make sure your HSF is plugged in properly.
You should make it boot off the optical first.
