Hello there,

I am about to upgrade my graphic card. I am looking at 4850 and 4870. I am not a gamer but i am going to use it primarily for blu ray setup. I know some cheaper cards can do the trick but both of the cards are in my budget range. So, 4850 and 4870 are my choices.

Here comes the question.

i know that 4870 has 7.1 hd audio sound throgh hdmi. Does this hold true to 4850? If that is the case , i will go with 4850. or else, 4870 will be my choice.

Please help me clear my question.

Thanks.

That should be true about all HD4 series (of which only the 4850 and 4870 are out right now). So yes, the 4850 should be perfectly capable of 7.1 audio out.

If u know anything about Bluray and sound, then u know that while the audio does go thru the HDMI, its limited to about 700kbs.

The only way, atm, to get hd sound out a pc is to buy an asus xonar sound card. Then your video and HD audio go thru an hdmi from the sound card.
