Hey guys and gals. I'm building my first gaming computer and had picked out all the parts. Since the gtx 260 recently dropped in price, I'm going to get that instead of a 9800 gtx. My question is whether or not the PSU I had chosen would still be adequate to power the rig.

I tried a psu calculator online, but it wasn't quite detailed enough. My friend said the one I picked should be adequate, but I want your expertise. ;)

Here's the PSU I was considering:

Antec NeoPower 650 Blue

Here's the EVGA GTX 260 FTW:

==note it says it requires 2 x 6 pins to hook it up== (the neopower says it has 1 x 6Pin, 1 x 6+2Pin. Will the neopower work with that?)

The rest of my build:
Intel q6600 2.4 gHz (probably will OC to 3.0+ gHz)
EVGA 750i motherboard
Raptor 150gb 10,000 rpm hard drive
G.Skill 4gb (2 x 2gb) pc2 8500 (1066) ram
Samsung 20x DVD+R
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro heatsink
Antec 900 case

Thanks for your help! :D

I only use PC Power & Cooling PSU's.
I also prefer to use only DFI MB's.
G.Skill,Patriot,Corsair RAM.
Thermalright air coolers and Silverstone FM-121 fans (not the FN-121).
The old Coolermaster Stacker TO-1 case is still the best....too bad they no longer sale it.

I wanna start out saying that your psu should work fine. However PSU with multiple 12v rails are no longer preferable in high end system. while you shouldn't need to worry about that in your setup I would recomend this one. It's only 10 bucks more and it's even 10 bucks cheaper after rebate. the 750watt version for 30 dollars more is a good pick too. only downer is that niether unit is modular.

corsair tx650

I use it in my build, powers a q6600, 8800gt, 8GBram, 2x 150GB raptors, 2 x velociraptors and 5 system fans w/o load balancing issues.

Splendid
Total system consumption for a test platform (fast CPU usually OC with very little else) can equal ~400w.

U never want to run your psu at more than ~80% for extended periods, so that leaves you with an absolute minimum of ~500w from a GOOD psu.

Anything less than 500w form a top tier psu and you would want a little more.
I tend to run a psu much better than i need, as this greatly enxends the psu's life and increases efficiency. Its also a safety as a psu can take out pretty much everything inside your case when it dies.

For the most part I'm with zolddude
After my piss poor experience with Asus where they took 3 tries to get me a working board from RMA, I am buying DFI.
I like G Skill for ram, also Mushkin.
I also like the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro over just about anything else for coolers.
I still like my Antec Super Lanboy Cases.
The Antec 300 and 900 are good too, I have the 900, and my next case will be a 300.
PCPower PSU's are the best.
Don't waste you hard earned money on a raptor, the Seagate 7200.11 beats it in all but one area, it's cheaper and holds more. Just look up the Toms review.
This DFI will clock well and is very stable.

The one thing I love about these forums is that you ask one simple question and everyone critiques your entire system :p I have an antec truepower trio and it's been good to me for the past year. I think it's on it's way out though, seeing as I have only 550w going to 2 8800 Gts's, a wd raptor, a wd caviar, and my mobo/5 case fans. What can you do I got it for 60 dollars.

Good system, but it is kind short in terms of wattage. I guess the PSU will be the first to bust a nut.

from your responses, most of you believe the gtx 260 and the 650w will be fine together.

concerns:
still be enough if I oc my q6600 to like 3.2 GHz?
still be enough if I oc the already massively oc gtx 260 ftw edition?
still be enough if I add a second hard drive in the future?

I've also noticed that with the Antec 900 case (that I own already, so I won't go get a different one) I need the PSU to have modular cables.

I'm pretty much deciding between these 2:
Antec 650W NeoPower http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371010
Antec 850W TruePower http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371009

I used 2 PSU calculators:
http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp
says ~423w including a 2nd hd, oc the cpu to 3200, but unfortunately doesn't let you account for ocing the videocard.
http://web.aanet.com.au/SnooP/psucalc.php says ~597w. this site lets me oc both the cpu and the video card.

Are these calculators reliable?
