I have looked at the reviews from these 2 sites...and the call of duty 4 benchmark results in particular look nothing alike....the 9800GTX+ outperforms the 4870 at gamespot but at anandtech the 9800gtx+ gets smoked....here are the links

They could have also been using different hardware. Performance can vary greatly depending on what cpu/motherboard (not as much, but still some). Driver version could also be contributing to the discrepancy.

dont forget that Anand also said about a new driver, and that they were using it (proof is when they talked about THE WITCHER's CROSSFIRE PERFORMANCE )
also before I forget.....
whats going on with the wattage of the 4870? I hard the GT280 was a energychumper ( a la R600 HD2900XT ) yet in crossfire anand claims the 4870 uses around 50% more than the SLI of GT280's.. that sounds.. fishy..

Maby the CPU was (please excuse the overuse of this word) "bottlenecking" the SLI'd GTX280 cards so that they would not be running at 100% speed, thus resulting in lower consumption, as that is always a possibility.
