I have this:
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16814133214

I’m running dual monitors at 1680x1050 with Vista Ultimate.

My friend said that I should upgrade my video card. Will I get any added benefit from a new video card?

I just occasionally play games and even tried Crysis with 1 monitor at low settings. I finished the game on Delta (which I assume means most monsters) and it seemed fine through all the episodes. So what will a better graphics card do for me besides allowing me to up the settings on a game like Crysis (which I’m never playing again)?

yes definately, any other video card:) lol the 8600 GTS, they were never good.

your next step up might be the 4850 for 200$:) or any other caard:p, 8800 GT, 8800 GTS, 9600 GT, 8800 GS.

Either 1 of those cards double the 8600 GTS benchmarks atleast.

So I also have a Core 2 Quad 2.4GHz and 4MB RAM dual channel 800 RAM.
So does this spec make it possible for me to play that game even though my 8600 is not a gaming card?

your specs are good, your card is bad. I mean at the resolution you play I'm suprised you can play games:p jks

Seriously though, that card I never understood because it can't even make a playable framerate for DX10 games:S

An 8800GT would be much better but still in the low end for todays games.

Three words W_T_F! I'm running one 8800GT at 650,1625,950 and That's Crysis at high with 40-50 fps (1280 x 1024) pretty much constantly. I would not call the 8800GT "low end." It's not a bad buy now, last week the EVGA one was around $130 which is a great buy.

i have a 8600gt and i can play almost every game in max settings(crt 1280x1024), exept crysis, witch i don´t even like it. but to be honest a 8800gt is a great card, have in mind how much and what games do you play.

It actually recommended everything set to Medium at that resolution, but I found it a little jittery and didn't like it so I changed everything to low settings. But at the low settings it seems to handle DX10 ok. Maybe because this specific card has a 710 MHz clock helps it a little. But then again, for Crysis, you usually play a game like this for the graphics on very high settings I suppose. :) I mean the game-play itself is pretty lame compared to others so...but I guess it's meant to be multi-palyer and the episodes are just "training".

DO NOT BUY A 8600 full stop I bought one just a temp card when I fried my 7800GT while I was waiting for the 8800GT to come out. Even as a temporary card it was rubbish infact the performance was almost worse than old 7800!

Yeah, I checked out that card. It's cheap compared to the nVidia counterparts.
