I need a good program that will clone my hard drive .... as i do not want to have to reinstall all my stuff on my new drive ... i wanna make an exact clone of the partition onto my new hard drive ..... the current partition has my os and all my programs and plugins and it would take hours to reinstall any suggestions/ ideas ?

I think ALL hard drive companies have this software right at their sites. I know WD does.

All you need to do is:
1) Burn the Clone CD (or floppy?)
2) Install the new drive in a second spot
3) Boot to the CD
4) CLONE/Partition etc.
5) Shutdown and move the new drive to the old spot

ok so its a boot disk then ?

Acronis program walks you through the cloning process in Visat or other OS. As photonboy stated, there are free programs that come with new hard drives. They
are on the CD that comes with the HD and will walk you through the process also.

Read everything very carefully and follow the directions when cloning, some programs when cloning a smaller drive to a larger one you could finish up with the new drive, the same size as the old one. DO NOT delete the data on the old drive untill such time as you are sure the new drive is working as it should be and the full size.
There have been some looking for help on forums when their new 500GB drive finshed up as an 80GB same as the old one, in that instance a restore utility is required, hence the reason for my warning about not deleting the old drive.

yeah i only wanna copy all the data not the whole 250 gbs

Download and use the free trial of Acronis to clone your old drive to your new drive, it is very easy, very fast, and works like a charm. It will allow you to partition the new drive anyway you want before you make the clone, to any sizes you want, and clone the current drive to any partition of any size (as long at it is big enough).
The people who made this program knew what they were doing, it walks you through whatever you want to do step by step. Then tells you what you have just decided to do, and confirms that you actually want to do it.
