Hi, I'm trying to make a decent gaming PC for myself. It's my first time making one and I need LOTS of help.
Here's what my shopping cart consists of:
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor Model BX80570E8400 - Retail
GPU: BFG Tech BFGE88512GTOC2E GeForce 8800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail
Case: Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail
CPU Cooler: COOLER MASTER RR-CCH-L9U1-GP 92mm Hyper TX2 CPU Cooler - Retail
Motherboard: EVGA 123-YW-E175-A1 LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 750i FTW SLI ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail
Memory: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK - Retail
PSU: Antec True Power Trio TP3-650 650W ATX12V Power Supply with Three 12V Rails - Retail
Hard Drive: 2X Western Digital Caviar SE WD1600AAJS 160GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM
DVD Burner: SAMSUNG 20X DVD±R DVD Burner Black SATA Model SH-S203B - OEM

And Arctic Silver Ceramique Thermal Compound + 2 case fans.

Are there anything that I'm missing in building the rig(even the smallest details)? Are there any compatibility issues with these components? I tried to match all the components to the mobo and PSU, but I might have made some mistakes since it's my first time. Finally, any opinions and suggestions on this build are welcomed!!

Thanks in advance for your input :)

Nothing is missing as I see of, maybe what operating system. Are you planning to run Sli? If not, then you don't need that motherboard, you could get a p35, p45 or x38, x48 mobo.

Jsut some point nothing really extreme, but is related toyour budget.

Cpu cooler: synthe or thermalright, a little bit higher in price but real;ly more performance.

Memory... I got 4 gig ocZ reaperX and I have to say that's incredible memory. but it's your choice

HDD: did you plan to go raid or to have multiple os intall... In case of raid it's ok. In case of multiple os plan an other HDD for back up.

PSU: The seasonic 650W or the silverstone 750W his in sale in number of place . Those two are in tier ne for psu

I hope I help you... sorry for my english it's not my first langage

Well, I'm "future proofing" myself by buying that motherboard, as I may add another 8800GT to the rig. But I found a problem; the mobo specs says it supports 1066Mhz DDR2, but in the product manual it doesn't... I guess I'm just gonna get a 750i SLI ASUS mobo with DDR2 800 just for the price then...
And yes I was trying to get RAID 0 config. but I can't find the guide on how to do it..

Terrible idea. SLIing 8800GTs right now is bad enough, but doing it at a later date is really bad idea. New 2xx series video cards will be out soon which will beat an SLI 8800GT setup.

Besides unless you plan on gaming at resolutions over 1920x1200 you don't need to SLI anyway. Don't fall for the marketing nonsense. The only person that thanks you when you SLI is the power company for the extra money you donate to them with higher power bills.

Change the motherboard to a x38/x48 or P35 if you are a budget. Asus or Gigabyte.

It is really a shame not to O/C even a noob can easily do it.

Now I have a lot of changes to make, eh ? lol
Allright, so screw the SLI. Now I have to choose different motherboard+GPU, maybe RAM, and do more research.
Sounds goot to me- it's summer break, time is all I have!

Thank you all

Thank you very much for going that extra mile!! But I have more questions... haha.. what does that 4-4-4-12 and 5-5-5-15 mean on RAMs? And can you give me a link to OC guides on this site? I can't seem to find the proper articles...

Those are timings- the lower the numbers the "tighter" or better they are. For O/Cing 4-4-4-12 is preferred over 5-5-5-15 because often the memory can be clocked higher.

I am not sure about O/Cing guides. On most motherboards now (esp on Asus ones) you just change the FSB setting. If everything else is left on auto all other variables are adjusted automatically.

If you are going to stick with the Antec 900 you don't need to buy any extra fans. It comes two in the front, one in the back, and the massive one up top. There is room for one on the side panel, but it's not really needed.

I would still get the after market cooler though, because it will be easier to install it before you mount the MoBo in the case so you can make sure the pins are set correctly, and that way it will already be in place should you be tempted to OC. It's not like it adds that much expense to your rig.

Believe me if you don't install the cooler before you mount the Mobo...you'll wish you had when you're trying to get that fouth pin to click in.

If you still wanted to do SLI I'd go with 2 9600GT's, but if not the other recommendations here are alright.

Thanks for that TIP! I think I'm gonna stick with the current cooler I chose since THG rates it high for the buck. I'm also thinking of getting CORSAIR DDR2 800 RAM 4-4-4-12 just because it's $10 cheaper(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145194). I was thinking if I should change the PSU as I don't plan on using SLI. What do you guys think?

I would keep it. I don't think it's over the top for what you are building even without SLI. Besides it's not going to hurt to have a little room for growth.

I'm assuming these will do it. If there are still suggestions, they are welcomed. Thank you noob-rescuers.
By the way, how do I set RAID 0 and anybody know newEgg promo codes?...

RAID will be setup in the RAID BIOS once your SATA mode is set to RAID in BIOS. You will press a key combo when prompted, and just follow the prompts. Do this BEFORE you install Vista.

Since I'm still a kid who has to beg for his mother to get something, I've decided to go with a cheaper build(800~900 ish). The IDEAL BUILD thread helped me a lot in coming up with new components. I believe you are posting stuff on that thread, too. I've decided to take your advice and OC to get the most out of the new build I came up with, special thx to you(shadowduck).

I guess no more posts will be up on this thread, thanks everyone for helping this noob out. I love this forum, haha- so helpful w/ kind experts!
