Wanting to build a box around an Intel q9450 Quad.
I am not sure when one I should go with. I do plan to OC 3.2 or better. I do know they don't SLI, but use CF.
GIGABYTE GA-X48-DS4 - ddr2
or
ASUS RAMPAGE FORMULA -ddr2
Eventually I will want 8gb of ram due to video processing.
Rest of the build
Evga gt 8800 gts (g92) 512 ---- Prob wait for the new stuff in 2-3 weeks. Nvidia right now is beter than amd in my opinion, but might do dual CF with 48xx if they are good.
4gb ram - Cheap and fast ddr2
640 western digital hd
PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750
Case - Either Cooler Master RC-690 , Cooler Master Centurion 590
--- I don't care for windows or flashy lights.
They're both fine high-end boards, and pretty comparable. I personally just built a system using the Asus Rampage and I'm extremely happy. Has every feature you could want and overclocks ridiculously easy.
I think the Asus BIOS is a little more mature and probably as a result overclocks with more ease. It is 50 bucks more than the Gigabyte however, so take that into consideration.
I can speak for the Rampage. Its a nice board with a lot of features, but its not the most economical. However, if you decide to get it, you'll not want for anything in a motherboard for a long time.
asus went bad lately with decieving consumers with its p35 range mobo. gigabyte called them on in, and now they're in a lawsuite. it was obvious asus was the bad guy. how does this affect this mobo? i have no idea, but if it was me- it awoid asus for my next build anyway (that and last one i had didint tolerate my 8800gtx- integrated sound problems...)
My concern is that eventually I might want to go up to 8gb ram in the future. I know both support them, but I have been reading that some of the x48 have issue with fully populated ram slots and such.
Any thoughts? And does anyone have exact reviews showing those issues?
