Hi,

Im putting together a gaming build consisting of an E8400, ati 4870, and ddr2 800mhz ram.

I was planning on putting these together with an asus p5q deluxe.

Someone has suggested the striker extreme instead and was wondering what people thought of it.

Ive read a few reviews and Im not too keen on it. Its got lots of bells and whistles on it but Im concerned about the age of the chipset.

Are the 680i, and more importantly the striker extreme able to compete against midrange p45 boards like the p5q deluxe?

Thanks

Get the p5q. The less expensive chipsets overclock better. My friend got a 500$ striker like 1 1/2 years ago and ill he had was problems. It comes with soo many things that can break.

get the p5q

nvidia chipsets get nothing but bashed nowadays, although i've never personally had one... if your gonna get a second card, might a suggest an x48 motherboard? if your gonna stick with one card, maybe a p43 would be your best choice... i don't really know why anyone would pick a p45, if you can afford a striker extreme, you can surely afford an x48 right?...wait can you even FIND a striker extreme now?

The retailer I wana buy from doesnt stock the p5q :(

I was thinking of the Gigabyte EP45 DS5 or the Gigabyte EP45 DS4.

Any comments on those?

I know a guy at one of the e-tailers who suggested the striker..at a discount price of course :P

Im guessing they have stock left of the striker boards or something.

Just read a few reviews of the Gigabyte EP45 DS5 and its look simmilar in price and performance to the p5q deluxe.

Might even be able to get a few bob knocked off it :)
