cool =D
It would have been nice to have more than 3 choices today. They didn't last long.
Nice, I didn't know Palit will be in on the 4800 series. I might keep an eye on what they throw out there.
Today turned into an almost paper launch. Saw 3 cards on Newegg, went for my credit card, and when I came back they were out of stock. Would have been nice if there were a lot of cards, and more vendors but maybe in a week or two some will be available again. I'd like two of them, for that matter, but from what I've read so far, that would mean buying a bigger PSU than I have and I don't quite feel like doing that. Not yet anyway. .
wow...great for a new build this year

same reference card, same reference cooler. no difference between any of them
edit: forgot about the stickers, the stickers are different
the support will be different....choose wisely...

Yeah it pretty much was. However, it is projected that it will only take a couple of weeks to get stocks. I posted this in another thread but I stopped by Best Buy last night and the guy showed me the inventory for all of the stores in the state. No BB store in the entire state had a unit shipping out.
Similar story. I woke up early and was kind of thinking about getting one. Decided to read the review on anandtech first, went back and they were gone. Oh well... it would have been mostly wasted in my current rig anyway.

But aren't the stickers the most important part?

Not yet. They'll get a lot more interest once they make the girl naked.
Doesn't Asus usually use a better cooler on their cards? I'm surprised to see the stock unit on their card.
Anyone know how hard it is to take off those coolers and add a better one?
Not very hard to remove the stock cooler and replace cant remeber which site did it but essentially any cooler that fits the 3000 series will bolt onto the 4000 series i.e duo orb, accelero etc. however the problem is ram sinks so might be better to wait for a revised version of the mentioned coolers above. unless you hav extra ones lying around which I do not. There is also a thread discussing this for the 4850 which may be of some use for more info.
I'm not getting one but I do like the Club3D.
I'll take the HIS, thank you very much. No frou-frou CG character for me.
And what happened to MSI's white angel? That was one of the only cool CG design out there. Or was that only on nV cards?
Nothing beats 3dfx Voodoo logos though...
Good Thread IonRa.
I have to say I like the ASUS card the best. The card looks flat out awesome.
I dont know why these companies insist on such weird random CG images on their gpus. As mentioned above I dont want some stupid looking chick on my GPU unless she is naked. I was going to and probably still will get the ASUS one as I like to keep my components matching but if anyone was going to see it I would get the HIS one as its not so stupid looking. If only XFX wasnt so strongly tied to nvidia their gpu's are always the best as for most part dont have lame CG images all over them. I would of liked maybe a camo skin on the 4870, it could even be in matching ATI red and black colors...
It's been awhile since I've bought an ATI card. I really don't know much about a lot of those manufacturers. It's hard to know which company's card to shoot for.
Any recommendations?
edit: Mostly wondering about service, warranties, etc.
does any 1 know if any company will release a 1gb version of the 4870? I would rather wait 4 tat 1. If not ill get the same company as my 3870, HIS.
Simple and clean - HIS =x
Eh, I'll get the Sapphire card, if I decide to spend that much, then just take the VaporX off the 3870 I have and put it on the 4800 card, should be able to handle the 4870 without breaking a sweat.

Sapphire is the #1 seller of ATI cards but it is difficult to reach their customer service unless you know where to look for the phone # and even at that it is subcontracted out. There website is very lacking too and they have never responded to any of my emails. Thus I am not buying from them again.
Visiontek I would say would probably be the best company to deal with far as warranty / customer service. Plus they normally pack a free game in with their cards. Right now they are promoting MASS EFFECT with their cards for free.
I have not decided 100% yet but my next card is probably going to be Visiontek or one of the ICE-Q Turbo 4800 cards by HIS Digital. HIS digtal has an awesome 2 slot cooler they place on their cards and it is ultra quiet.
Newegg has Sapphires as of right now
SH*T...I got one but they are gone again.
Thats crazy, hehe seems like there is a huge demand. Kudos to AMD.
Might be a good time to buy stock.
I was thinking about it when it was $5. Now might not be a bad time because it was almost at 8 but now it is back at 6 something. It was projected to start going up by the end of the year but that was from the horses mouth.
