Hi everyone,

I've been planning a new computer build, and it's almost come time for me to purchase my parts, but I'm facing a little dilemma.
First of all, I use my computer for almost everything, but I use it most for work, gaming, and listening to music/watching movies.

I've not been treating my current computer too well, so the drive is really fragmented. I'll probably migrate the data over to whatever new drive(s) I get. This includes about 50 gigs of MP3s and 20 gigs of Movies

Given my situation, do you think 1 TB drive would be better, or two 500 GB drives?

Also, once I do decide, how should I partition the drives?

I was thinking of making a 30 GB System partition for Windows 7, a 100 GB partition for games and applications, and splitting the rest into a storage partition and a smaller 'downloading' parition

If I get 2 500 GB drives, I'll probably use one as a system/application drive, and the other as a storage/downloading drive.

As far as brand goes, I was looking at the Samsung Spinpoint F3s, as they're quite new, but I'm open to other suggestions.

Thanks!

Personally, I'd always go with the 2 drive option with one for the OS and applciations/games and the other for storing docs, music, movies etc. that way when it comes to reinstall or upgrade the os you don't have to worry about the docs etc as they're on a separate drive. Although always make sure you do do regular backups.

As to how to partition the drives, not sure I can help you there. I tend not to do it unless necessary as if the drive goes, makes no difference how many partitions there are/were. Also, anytime I have to reinstall/upgrade the OS, I still want to reinstall the programs/games etc that way there are no missing files that were missed during a backup procedure. I'm sure people here will disagree and say partioning is a good thing!

Brand wise I don't think there one brand that is better than the others from reading what people put here! Often it comes down to what's available at the time. I don't have a brand preferance unless I need a drive for a certain application eg RAID when I tend to go WD as they seem to be easier to find although seagate is just as good. Again I'm sure people will offer alternatives!!

Hope that is some help
