absolutely wait for the 4870 or gtx 280 or whatever other cards that are coming out later this month. Rumors of quite impressive improvements in performance over the best cards out now including the 9800gx2. Might as well wait since the gpu is the most important part of any gaming system. Could get a nice dual core or slightly slower quad core like the q9450 and you have the option to overclock both of those quite easily.

processor and psu suggested are good...

motherboard...crappy. runs hot as hell, and people have problems with data corruption. i'd go with an intel ddr2 chipset...unless you REALLY want to go nvidia and go sli.

ram...geil, gskill, ocz or crucial.

graphics...wait till the new cards come out...then figure out if you wanna go sli or crossfire x

I'd say wait till the end of the month...build then

This would be a great setup for multitasking work and play on the same machine. Upgrade the mobo to an sli compatible if your going to go benchmark crazy. other wise the 9800gtx will rock every game out there, personally i'd even step down to the 8800gt and wait till the next cards become more mainstream.

100% agreed
Processor I would go for Q6600 with G0 stepping
Seems 45 n processors are still not mature, lot of heat, sensors, and erata problems
Q6600 can OC easily to 3.2GHz
Stick to X48 with DDR2 mobo
DDR3 will shine with Nehalem
