Hello,

Because I wanted to delete the partitions from a third HD so I can use it as one big box for backup, I made the apparent error of deleting the logical drive when in the computer management screen. Now I can't see it there on "My Computer" (in Windows XP Home) or in computer management, but I can see it in the device manager. How do I get it to be recognized again so that I can reformat the drive and start using it? I have tried turning off the computer and disconnecting the drive physically, restarting without it connected, and then restarted again with it connected. I tried turning off the power supply. I changed to a different SATA port thinking that might make the computer see it as a new drive. Just get the same result every time - seen in the device manager but nowhere else. This drive seems to be "marked" as not part of the club anymore, and no-one will let it back in. How to gain the drive re-admittance?

take it out, restart computer.turn computer off again, reinsert drive and it will be piced up by xp again!

Sooo... no need to answer. I finally just figured it out myself. I disabled the drive in device manager and re-enabled it, and now it's happily formatting with a drive letter.

Actually, if you read my original question, that's what I did in the first place, and that is what did not work. But as I said, I did get it working by disabling it and re-enabling it in the device manager.
