OK I have a Dell GX620 that I would like to upgrade.
It has:
P4 Prescott 2.8GHz
2x1GB PC4200
80GB HD
275W PSU
onboard video

So I would like to get a video card and it will have to be a low profile due to the case.
Are there any cards that will work with the stock PSU, or am I stuck with the onboard video?

I will be upgrading to a larger HD if that matters.

The GX620 uses a PCIex16 video card socket. The choices aren't very good (ie no hardcore gaming cards) with a low profile card.

page from Newegg showing most your choices from there.
Listing from Toms that shows their relative capability

All the ones i checked at Newegg would be fine with a 275w power supply. If you do find a more powerful card, it may have higher requirements. Hope this helps

I would say your best bet would be to buy a cheap case and a new PSU and transfer everything over to the new case. I don't know how many amps that PSU has but judging by it's 275w it's not a lot. You could buy a cheap case and a good PSU for $75-$100 and it will give you a lot of upgrade options.

ausch30, if I do that I may as well do the whole build. I was going to do a build for about $800...then this dell fell in my lap and I was thinking I could put off spending the $800 for a year or so figuring the price of quad cores will come down by then.

But if that PS ain't gonna take it then I'll just pass the computer along to some one who can use it...
