Hi

I have a cabling system in my house - about 8 years old - that has written on it:

cat5 E142890 Elite 100UTP 4PR 24AWG

Is this Cat 5 or 5e - i suspect the former.

If so what's the chances it will support gigbit ethernet ?

Many thanks

David

I'm pretty sure it is just Cat 5 gigabit network was originally designed for Cat 5 but Cat 5e is made to tighter tolerences so could work fine especially since in your house the cable are not likely to be close to the 100m length limit.
