I got a EVGA 750i FTW with 4gb (2x2gb) 1066 DDR2 Gskill and an EVGA GTX280 Video card, Im unsure what bios revision is on the board right now, but I'm getting artifacts on screen in BIOS and on POST. Also having weird numbers and letters etc appear, however I loaded XP up, installed video drivers and everything seemed to be ok, that was until I switched monitors from an old 20in dell, to a 24in WS Acer, then my desktop went psychedelic on me.
Any hints on the fix or what is causing the issue? I thought it was a bad video card, but it seemed ok after I installed driver and loaded XP on it. I know evga has been releasing bios updates for video corrupt issues. Also I havent tried any other ram, I got 2 old sticks of 800 instead of 1066 I can try.
I indeed tested another video card for giggles, it turns out that the New GTX280 I received is bad, if anyone has the same problem in the future just an fyi here were my troubleshooting steps:
Swapped Ram out (changed from 1066 to 800)(swapped from 2 sticks to 1)
Tried a BIOS update, Video Corruption seems to be a big deal on the Nvidia Chipset
Swapped out video cards
I also have an evga 750i and am running the evga 9800gx2 video card. I bought the two evga products about two months ago, and after a month, my video card would no longer show the initial boot screens, my monitor would just stay black, until Windows began to load. I have a feel that both of our problems are connected to the same piece of hardware that is failing, I still have no idea what it is that's failing. It seems like something is failing or needs to have the firmware updated, inside our video cards. I know it's not my motherboard either because when I throw in my BFG 7600gt my boot sceens show up and I'm able to view my BIOS. After christmas, I plan on buying another EVGA motherboard because the one I'm using now was bought brand new off Ebay, and EVGA warranty is void because I bought it from a private seller, I am still pretty pissed about that... Lemme know if anything has changed or improved for you hopefully it has.
By the way, I've tried updating the BIOS and it didn't do squat. Just gave me a few more option in the BIOS and changed the names of some of the features, that's pretty much it. I still can't view my initial boot screens when using my 9800gx2... I hope you also heard about the SATA controller bug, which I was victim of until I heard of the remedy. Apparently if you put a hard drive on a master SATA plug, and then put a CD-rom drive on it's Slave SATA socket, it will cause the NV4.sys ,I think it was, BSOD!!... I finally moved the CD-ROM drive to the other master SATA port and the problem stopped... Also my Fiber Optic audio out is no longer working consistently, yes i've updated the driver from EVGA support, also the little audio out jacks have gone dead. 750i boards have good features... when they work...
Eric
I'll let you know if when I install the new board, I'm debating with maybe going with XFX and seeing if my video card will post the boot-up screens. I might pay 50 bucks and have a computer shop run a diagnostics on all my hardware.
