Why doesn't anyone offer them? Whats the stumbling block? Heat? Power consumption? I know SAS drives can be used but why doesn't WD release a raptor with 15K instead of 10K?

they are really hot, and loud and expensive and low capacity

if you want one just go plop down on a new model ssd from intel.

Loud! If not, I'd have a couple in Raid-0.
Power (=heat) is small as compared to a graphics card.

If you want to give a try, buy some used Scsi ones at eBay, plus a Raid controller on Pci (32b and 64b and 33MHz and 66MHz are compatible, you need room enough) or Pci-E. Getting cheap now.

Next reason: people switch to SSD.
