After days of reading through forums and sites, I finally decided to post my own since I was not able to find an answer for my issue.
So here is the story, I have the Gigabyte P965-DS3 3.3 board and I have a Q6600.
I am trying to get it to at least 3.2ghz or higher but I can't get anywhere close to it. Highest I was able to do is 300x9 and it only worked once. I'm reading all these success stories, people overclocking their Q6600 to 3.6ghz and I can barely hit 2.7ghz. I tried playing with the voltages but no matter what, the PC reboots, runs for a couple of seconds and then reboots again. This time the settings are set back to default.
I would really appreciate any help with this, specifically with the P965-DS3 boards. If there is anyone who has the same mobo and has a Q6600, please let me know what your settings are in the BIOS.
Sounds like you're playing only with the vcore settings. Have you played around with the FSB memory multiplier of your system? (Look through the BIOS) Maybe yo're not scaling your memory accordingly.
Note though I'm not that experienced with overclocking, so take everything I say with a grain of salt.
I had a Q6600 G0 on that board and was limited to 3.0 GHz. Do you have Speedstep turned off? What kind of heatsink do you have? Is it a G0 stepping (SLACR) Q6600? What are your temps like?
