For those who haven't seen it yet...

Very interesting news, I must say, even if it sounds more like a paper launch (main page article says you won't actually see the processors until October). I have to wonder why they're doing this though. Could it be they're really just doing really well with the architecture and have already ironed out a significant amount of the errata, bugs, issues, etc with the chip, chipset, boards and all that? Or are they releasing so quick to turn a profit sooner or make it for the holiday season? It just seems quick... almost too quick.

Well, regardless, I can't wait for some reviews of the sucker. Hopefully we'll see some nice improvements.

Probably better than expected yields. The 45nm process is quite mature by now with all of the ones that have already shipped.

I can say I'm definitely happy about this.

I see nothing wrong with a September release even if volume hardware isn't really available till October, thats still at least two months ahead of schedule, probably more.

Although it's worth waiting to see how the 45nm will compare to the eventual 32nm. If its anything like the Conroe to Penryn cycle than all it will do is give a slight OC headroom, bring thermals down and increase die manufacture efficiency.

Maybe its not important for thoose one who already has an Quad-Core or a good Core2Duo (just like a E8400) .........

But, it is a very good notice for people who are thinking in build a new PC ...like me! =) ....

I should really wait for Nehalem .... shouldnt I?

I dont think they will sell many for the first 3 months. A lot of people are going to be stuck with their s775 systems for some time and not willing to upgrade their entire platform for a 15-20% theoretical performance increase.

The vast majority of computer buyers don't just upgrade their CPU and then GPU and such.

Most buyers just replace the entire computer. For them, a PC with Nehalem would make a lot of sense given its great performance and relatively low price (below $300 at launch).

I bet Intel would sell a lot of Nehalem in Q4 this year as long as the supply is not bottlenecked.

Hard to say, really. The article mentioned early October availability, with release at an unspecified point in September. So the gap could be anywhere from a couple of days to 4~5 weeks. Not enough data yet to sound the paper launch alarms, IMO.

Edit: I was just thinking that the 'gap' could be accounting-related - Releasing in September will allow them to book Nehalem revenue in Q3 as opposed to Q4.
