Firefox crashes my computer display driver

Hello,

Since I updated to the latest Firefox my computer my display driver fails to respond and windows reboots the computer whenever I use firefox. I do not have any problems with any other software or with IE9.

Thanks for your suggestion. I have a four year old machine running Vista. CPU is AMD Phenom 9550 quad core, 2.2 GHz and I have 6G ram. The video card is a ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics/3400 Series. First thing I tried was updating the driver. The ATI site after checking my system installed a "legacy" driver but it didn't help the problem.

Any other thoughts?

Frankly, I am not sure whether it is entirely a video card driver issue . . .

Here is the rather peculiar things I have been encountering over the last couple of days.

a) Was using FF 18.0.1 and I encountered sudden shut downs (same as if you were to shut off the power).

b) when checking the eventlog I discovered a list of errors (started on jan.14th) – see at the bottom

c) at some point I read a recommendation on Internet as to check out the fanspeeds, which I did and discovered that the videocard was boiling hot! (over 100 degr c/212 degr F)
this was because the fan stopped working…

d) I bought a new videocard, i removed all old drivers etc. from the old one (incl. registry entries)

e) installed new software

all seemed to working well, but after a short while (coincidentally) when using FF the pc shuts of again.
So, a new videocard incl uptodate drivers did not improve the sitation.

Currently I am using IE9 and see what happens – it is okay for a full day now.

FWIW: I applied following changes (possible solutions?)

1) stop autoload CCC : run -> msconfig.exe -> startup, untag Catalyst Control Center
2) stop AMD External Events Utility: run-> services.msc – untag AMD Externel Events

I donot have any errors in the log file anymore.

Maybe. . .

as said, I did flwg:

Things are running fine now, no errors.

Don't know how to disable GPU rendering as it seems there is no manual on this card.

So, guess I let it rest for now.
