I have a 500 gb hdd and following the threads i partitoned 100 gb for OS now I have no idea where the other 400 gb went. How can I recover this, clearly I missed a step. Can anyone lead me to some helpful information or guide on how to do this correctly.

You have a C drive now, of 100GB but you want to see the D drive letter with the other 400GB. To do this, you have to create that 400GB partition first. You don't need to re-install. Just go to disk management (right click My Computer and click Manage in the start menu) and in the free space, create a new partition.

Its obvious that whatever was on the drive will be lost, if you had data on it from an earlier configuration. Ofcourse your C-partition won't be touched by this operation.

Follow these steps to resize an existing partition on a computer's hard disk drive when using Windows Vista:

http://209.167.114.38/support/TechSupport/TSBs/ALL/-TSB...

If your OS is XP, follow these steps to resize the partition:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/309000

You can do this from either Windows XP/ Vista, No need to reinstall OS

Hope this helps :)
