Thing is the 6400+ costs 20 EUR (28 USD) more than the 1218. Now I own an opteron 165 skt 939 stock speed @1.8 Ghz, oc'ed to 2.7 Ghz.....amazing CPU. Opteron is a stable server CPU, on 939 it can be oc'ed like hell. Can the AM2 version be overclocked as well?
I also need a good motherboard and I was thinking of this one:
MB Gigabyte GA-M750SLI-DS4, Nvidia NForce 750a SLI, S-AM2/AM2+, 4xDual DDR2-1066. Is this a good motherboard?....it's not expensive at all.
Overclock that puppy to 3.0Ghz!! Remember to lap the heatsink and CPU heatspreader. Remove the stock fan and replace it with a Zalman fan bracket and 120mm Arctic cooling fan to maximise your OC gains!!
Ah just like the 1.8Ghz socket 939 Opteron 165's I bought recently... Nice overclock to 2.8Ghz on air with stock cooling (and replacement fan).
