Cannot restart my computer

I have widows vista. My computer won't restart. I followed all of the directions on my system recovery disc but to no avail. I continue to get the following message:
File: \Windows\system32\config\system
Status: 0xc00000e9
Can anyone help?

The Windows Registry is corrupt in your existing Windows installation.
Start up your PC and keep pressing F8 until Startup Menu appears.
Highlight "Last known good configuration" and press <Enter>.
