Yes, the 9800gx2 perform far better. As for future of ddr3, it doesn't matter for the end user. Only concern yourself with bottomline performance.
For those prices, both rigs are lousy. They probably use crap motherboards that doesn't allow oc too. What is an e8400 without oc? They always skim on parts that they don't think typical buyers will notice, like motherboard...
Build one yourself, you'll save money and get quality components.

Ok thanks for the answer dagger. Maybe i will build one myself. And the motherboards are these two:
Big price drops are around the corner for the graphics cards.. and im not sure how soon intel release their new desktop chip, but I'm waiting at least till then..
Then you'll have money left over to buy games too
in any case I don't get it.. no vista64? you do need an OS you know. and one capable of using 4gigs or ram. and so on.
the whole second setup seems a bit of a joke.
Ok.... i know that i need vista 64, but there is not a vista in the price. What is wrong with the other stuff? I am just looking for a good gamer computer.
Check out my setup in the more information link under my name. I just built it and it ran a little shy over $1500. It has far better components (except the Crucial RAM ) than the #1 you posted and it costs less. If you can build yourself I would suggest doing so. For the same price you can get components that are a lot better quality and your system will perform top notch as well. If you look at Dagger's mobo, it is the same mobo as mine but a less expensive version, they perform exactly the same though.....point is....you can save a lot of money and get better parts if you build or you can spend the same amount of money and get a bad @55 rig.
If you have any Qs about building you can find a lot of info/help on these boards.
