Hey guys,

I'm thinking of buying an Ati 4870 X2 but I don't know wich motherboard I need for this card will an Asus Maximus Extreme do it?

Link : http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?modelmenu=1&model=186...

And is a GTX280 still better or will the Ati 4870 X2 be marketleader?

And what is the price of the 4870 X2 and is it already released? (In Belgium if someone knows) :p

More about : ati 4870 motherboard

Okay great! Thanks guys one more question is the 4870 X2 better than the GTX280 and the ENG9800GX2?

In my opinion yes, I have given up on nVidia and their crappy drivers, I have returned to ATI. I have been using ATI cards since the late 80's, although I have on a couple of occassions used nVidia cards, I gave up on them after fighting with their crappy Vista drivers for a year or so. In addition, ATI does HD video much better, notably under XP, with Vista the difference is not as marked.

Another vote for the 4870X2.

And yes it will work with pretty much any motherboard that has a PCI-E slot.

+1 for the 4870X2

im running one on my ASUS Maximus II Formula and it is beyond incredible.

Okay great! But I heard GTX280 is still running better on crysis is this fake? xD
And can I order it everywhere? (belgium) and does anyone know the cost price of this? :p

Im so tired of the nvidia junk advertising. Yes the 280 might get better scores in 1 game (crysis) which isnt even that great anyways.

Just because it can play crysis faster, doesnt mean its a better card.

numbers speak...4870x2 is king of the hill right now in games. Not sure how the GPGPU performance is, though with 800 stream processors I can imagine. Folding@home (v 62) performance is marked on my lan/server farm. it seems to like nvida cards more. but that's only putting 8800's (g92, g80) against 3870x2's. you should be real happy regardless!

Wait I don't understand that is 800 steam processors much or has nvidia more? :p

ATI/Nvidia card have a different architectures so you really cant compare those kinds of things. Like we have already said, the 4870x2 is a better card.

Okidoki thanks guys will 1000 watt power supply be enough? and are they around the same prices? ^^
August 18, 2008 9:45:20 PM

If your going to run a single card, then a quality 600 watt psu is all you need. If you want Xfire, PC Power and Cooling 860watt turbo cool is what you want.

If not going Xfire, PC Power and Cooling Silencer 610watt is what you want.

If you don't have any plans of Quad CrossFireX then either a Corsair 650TX or 750TX CMPSU will be perfect.
August 19, 2008 10:35:38 AM

I'm going to have Quad but what is CrossFireX? So the 1000 watt is good enough for the 2 GIG graphics card and all my other things? :p

And could I put the 4870 X2 in the Antec Three Hundred Case ?
August 20, 2008 10:19:21 AM

Okay great! And is the 1000 watt still enough if I run it in crossfire? Beacuse it's an 4870 X2 HD

Some guys say you need an 1200 but I don't find any of them so I hope 1000 watt is enough

Guys I'm so confused now My friend said that if you buy an ATI, you can't (or barely run Ageia/nVidia PhysX games & mods
And if someone make an modd on crysis or own made map that the fps will drop to 5 or at least very low beacuse ATI doesn't work with something is this true?

nvidia bought out ageia and recently released the power pack enabling physx on nvidia 8800 or better gpu's. In this regard your friend is right. Nvidia gpus have some added funtionality because of this. Intel bought havok's physics engine so no telling how it's future will unfold...

That said I would still get a 4870X2 for games. if your really itching for physx....try buying one of the pci Physx cards while they are still around.

Yea just buy a 4870x2 now.

I am drawing about 70% (under full load) from my computer PSU with 3 Raptor Drives, (2) 4870 X2's, and Intel 9450 and Thermaltake 1200W. The power supply I have is The Thermaltake 1200W Toughpower with max 99A, and 87%+ Efficiency. I am also powering (12) 120mm fans, and still looking. The Toughpower 1200W is a winner in my book, but it's expensive (retail price is $329 non-modular, $349 modular). Coming in the future Thermaltake's expanding the line upto 2000W PSU, not too sure when that will come out.

One of my rigs is running the same PS and agree. It can handle anything you toss at it.
